Horsetail (Equisetum arvensis L.), also called shavegrass, is native to both North America and Europe. It has been distributed all throughout the world and has been used as either an ornamental or a herbal plant. It really looks like a horse tail, which was reflected in its common names.

Ancient Romans used Horsetail as food and animal feed. The plant is still eaten as a salad in some parts of Europe. In Japan, Horsetail is commonly used in cosmetic products as cream, lotion, or ointment. Horsetail Herb can be used for example as a tea, poultice, a hair rinse, or as a homemade mouthwash.

How To Use Horsetail Herb Health Embassy

Infusion

Use 1-3 tsp of Horsetail Herb for 1 cup (200 ml) of water. Pour boiling water over the herb, steep 10-15 minutes, then strain the herbs. You can drink it as a tea or use topically.

Decoction

2-3 tsp of Horsetail Herb pour with 200 ml of cool water. Bring to a boil and simmer for 10 minutes. Add the amount of water that has evaporated, strain and drink. It can also be used externally.

Tincture

50 g of Horsetail Herb pour with 500 ml of 40-50% alcohol. Leave in a dark place for maceration for 14 days. Filter, pour into a bottle. Drink 3 tsp added to a tea, up to 3 times a day.

Herbal Hair Rinse

Brew a strong herbal tea (1/2 cup Horsetail Herb to 1 cup water), steep for an hour, strain and use as a hair rinse in the shower.

Gargle

Make a strong infusion - steep 2-3 tsp of Horsetail Herb in 200ml of boiling water and then cool it. Add a pinch of sea salt and a few drops of lemon juice and then gargle with this mixture.
